I notice what care systems often miss.
I’m Monalisa, founder of Outstanding Inside.
My route into care began with social work and expanded through nursing studies, human resources, project management and quality improvement. I later brought those disciplines into older people’s and dementia care, working directly inside individual homes and leading engagement and wellbeing across multi-home groups.
One belief has shaped everything I have built since: care should do more than keep people safe and complete necessary tasks. It should help them feel seen, understood, valued and still part of life.
I created Outstanding Inside after seeing the same gap, home after home: good policies, completed training, planned activities and carefully written care plans-yet the person living there could still spend much of the day feeling unseen, unoccupied or disconnected.
That is the difference between care that is completed and care that is felt.
Outstanding Inside exists to close that gap.
Built inside care - not around it
Working across different homes and organisations showed me that this was not a problem belonging to one manager, one team or one provider. It was a recurring gap between what care systems intend and what people experience in the ordinary moments of their day.
I also understand the pressures homes operate under. Good intentions compete with staffing demands, documentation, inspections and the relentless need to complete essential tasks. Meaningful change therefore has to be practical enough to survive a real shift, not merely sound impressive in a training room.
That is why I use a structured method:
Notice. Understand. Design. Embed. Evidence.
I begin by observing what life actually feels like, identifying what is already working and designing improvements that teams can realistically use and sustain.
From ideas to lived experience
My work has included:
Culture and engagement audits shaped around the Seven Human Needs: Being Seen, Feeling Safe, Having Choice, Being Understood, Feeling Valued, Staying Connected and Finding Meaning.
Dementia-informed environments, memory spaces and conversation points through Environment by Design™.
Staff micro-learning and culture-change resources that turn policy into usable everyday practice.
Language and communication development for frontline teams through Power of Language™.
Life-story, All About Me and wellbeing-planning tools.
Mealtime experience reviews and practical improvement plans.
Dementia and Values Champion programmes.
Transforming blank corridors into spaces of recognition, conversation and connection.
But the product is never the point.
What changes for the person living there is the point.
What is it actually like to live here?
That is the question at the centre of everything I do.
If you want to understand your home through the eyes of the people living there - or transform one overlooked part of it into somewhere that creates recognition, meaning and connection—let’s start with one honest conversation.
